What is ProNox?

ProNox is an innovative analgesic (numbing) protocol that combines nitrous oxide and oxygen in equal parts. An FDA-approved system, ProNox works by blocking pain sensors and endorphins in the brain, greatly reducing pain and discomfort throughout the course of a surgical procedure.

Patients typically feel the effects of ProNox just 1 to 3 minutes after inhalation. They are able to drive home 5 minutes after their procedure is complete.

At North Shore® Cosmetic Surgery, we offer ProNox to our patients to help them feel relaxed and secure during their treatments. A totally safe and reliable system, ProNox has become incredibly popular throughout the world of cosmetology and general medicine. Our providers are always on hand when the ProNox system is in use, ensuring that it’s working in a safe and efficient manner.

What to expect from ProNox

Before

We will prepare the patient for their procedure. During this time, we explain all the details of how ProNox works and provide patients with a single-use mouthpiece.

During

Patients start to self-administer the ProNox by inhaling through the mouthpiece. They will start to feel the effects after one to three minutes. ProNox is not a form of anesthesia, meaning that it will not put the patient to sleep. The patient need only breathe normally to feel the effects of the system.

After

Once the procedure is finished, patients only have to wait about 5 to 10 minutes before they will be allowed to drive home.

What procedures call for ProNox?

Injectables

Injectables are dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane, and neuromodulators, such as BOTOX. These products are used to increase volume in the face and smooth out wrinkles while preventing new wrinkles from forming.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment that involves using a hand-held device to punch tiny holes in the skin. These “micro-injuries” stimulate new collagen growth, renewing and revitalizing the patient’s skin.

Aveli

Aveli is designed to treat an aesthetically displeasing butt appearance. The treatment cuts bands of tissue in the butt region that are responsible for a “cottage cheese” look in the buttock region.

How does ProNox work?

ProNox is essentially a 50/50 ratio of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen. The patient breathes as they normally would while holding the mouthpiece in place. This process temporarily blocks pain sensors in the brain to ensure that patients don’t have any discomfort or anxiety throughout the treatment.

Is ProNox the same as anesthesia?

ProNox is not anesthesia and will not put the patient to sleep. Patients are in control of how much Nitrous Oxide they receive throughout the procedure. ProNox is incredibly mild and is designed to simply keep the patient feeling relaxed throughout their procedure.

Is ProNox safe?

ProNox is FDA-approved, and there are currently more than 5,000 ProNox systems in use throughout the world. The system has been used for over a decade in various medical and cosmetic fields.
Unlike other systems, ProNox gives patients control over their dosage with its fixed Nitrous Oxide system. The system is designed for easy use and always maintains a safe ratio.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects occur very rarely and will only last about 5 to 7 minutes. These side effects typically won’t happen the second time a patient uses the ProNox system. Some potential effects include headaches, dizziness, and nausea.

How much does ProNox cost?

ProNox can be bundled together with certain non-surgical treatments and the cost starts around $100.
