View ImagesThe decision to have breast enlargement surgery is very personal. Women who have small breasts or breasts that have changed shape and size following pregnancy or weight loss are ideal candidates for the procedure.
Breast implant size is determined based on the cubic centimeters (CCs) of saline or silicone used. To understand the appropriate volume, we will look at how much natural breast tissue exists and the breast size you want. We use the VECTRA 3D Breast Imaging Simulator from Canfield Imaging Systems to help you visualize how various sizes and shapes of implants will appear on your body.
We understand all of the considerations may appear overwhelming. Selecting an appropriate implant size requires understanding your personal aesthetic goals. These considerations, combined with the expertise and training of our surgical team, will help us ensure you achieve your aesthetic vision for your breasts.
Incision placement, as well as implant location, are decisions made before your surgery. During breast augmentation, the chosen incision is created, and the implant is placed into position. Several techniques may be used in placing the implants. These include:
The choice as to where to insert the breast implant incision reflects several factors, including the quality and thickness of your native breast tissue and skin, your implant size, your activity level, and your body type. Regardless of incision location, the incisions are hidden within the natural breast crease.
Breast enhancement surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. Once the incision is made, the appropriate implant will be inserted through the incision and placed into a surgical pocket created for it and secured into position.
After this process, the incision is closed with skin adhesives or sutures. After surgery, you will be resting in our private recovery area, monitored and screened, and then released to return home. You will be instructed to continue wearing the compression garment to reduce swelling. Several days after surgery, the swelling and bruising will start to decrease, and the breasts will begin to look and feel normal as they settle into their new position.
While individual results vary, you should be able to resume everyday activities within a week. Breast enhancement surgery creates gorgeous outcomes that feel and appear natural. This procedure is life-changing for many women, enhancing confidence in every aspect of life.
Adding significant volume to the breasts does require either saline or silicone breast implants. Fat transfers to the breast may be a good option for patients looking to increase the size of their breasts by a little bit.
This is a personal choice that our doctors can help you with, but it is helpful to know that silicone breast implants are preferred by 85% of patients nationwide.
It is usually recommended that patients wait for 6 months after having implants before getting pregnant.
Most patients will experience reduced nipple sensation for between 6 and 12 months after surgery but it should then return to your pre-surgery normal.
Most patients will be able to drive again a week after surgery. Some pain medications cause drowsiness that prevents driving, but it is very likely that by a week after surgery you will have switched to an over-the-counter pain medication that allows for driving.
You should take daily walks after your surgery but should postpone more intense physical exercise for 6 weeks.
Depending on your job and how physically demanding it is, you should be able to return to work within 7 to 10 days. Jobs that require lifting things that are heavier than 5 pounds should be avoided for 6 weeks.
