What Can I Expect After Breast Augmentation in Long Island?

Breast enhancement surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. Once the incision is made, the appropriate implant will be inserted through the incision and placed into a surgical pocket created for it and secured into position.

After this process, the incision is closed with skin adhesives or sutures. After surgery, you will be resting in our private recovery area, monitored and screened, and then released to return home. You will be instructed to continue wearing the compression garment to reduce swelling. Several days after surgery, the swelling and bruising will start to decrease, and the breasts will begin to look and feel normal as they settle into their new position.

This is a personal choice that our doctors can help you with, but it is helpful to know that silicone breast implants are preferred by 85% of patients nationwide.

When can I get pregnant after having breast implants?

It is usually recommended that patients wait for 6 months after having implants before getting pregnant.

Will I lose nipple sensation after implants?

Most patients will experience reduced nipple sensation for between 6 and 12 months after surgery but it should then return to your pre-surgery normal.

When can I drive after breast augmentation?

Most patients will be able to drive again a week after surgery. Some pain medications cause drowsiness that prevents driving, but it is very likely that by a week after surgery you will have switched to an over-the-counter pain medication that allows for driving.

When can I exercise after breast augmentation?

You should take daily walks after your surgery but should postpone more intense physical exercise for 6 weeks.

When can I return to work after breast augmentation?

Depending on your job and how physically demanding it is, you should be able to return to work within 7 to 10 days. Jobs that require lifting things that are heavier than 5 pounds should be avoided for 6 weeks.
