NY WOMAN HAS EXTENDED ABDOMINOPLASTY AFTER GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY WEIGHT LOSS
This mother (by C-section) in her early 40's had a laparoscopic band procedure which helped her lose 85 pounds, but left her with excess abdominal skin. Interested in body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck surgery, she came to our Long Island plastic surgery office for a consultation with Dr. Romanelli to see what could be done. On examination she showed a great excess of skin, along with some abdominal wall laxity. Her surgery was an extended type of abdominoplasty, meaning that the lower abdominal incision went not just hip to hip, but extended further onto her side. That was the only way to remove all of the extra skin that was left after the bariatric surgery. Her surgery was done at Huntington Hospital. We removed about ten pounds of abdominal skin, and tightened the abdominal wall. To recover, she spent two nights at the hospital to get up and about and comfortable. Usually with an extended abdominoplasty a one to two-night hospital stay is needed. She went home with drains, which we removed after six days. She has done a great job of getting into even better shape after her surgery. We often find that once hanging skin is removed it is easier for patients to properly exercise. She looks great, and feels even better.
